“dam”
installation, 2025
The installation was created from local materials – earth, roots, rubbish, scraps of household fabrics. Commissioned by Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art for the exhibition „Soil and friends”.
An instalation – meeting place for people, bacteria, and parasites that humans carry in their bodies. Underground, in the soil. For Bruno Latour, soil is a zone of entanglement: a place where human life meets microorganisms, politics meets geology, and history meets inhuman time. The work draws on folklore, in which rubbish and caves are spaces of transition—between worlds, species, orders—places where non-human forces operate, haunting us, “for three centuries nature left us alone, but now it is returning as a full-fledged political force that is forcing us to change direction.”
Commissioned by CSW ZU for Marianna Dobkowska’s and Edith Jeřábková’s exhibition “Soil and Friends”.
