braiding
performance and video, 40min, 2022
„zaplatanie” is a secular folk rave ritual with a public character. Centered around the metaphor of braiding, it is an invitation to re-imagine meaningful and intimate co-presence with the human and non-human worlds. More than 20 dancers have been paired with live musicians to create a continuous, hypnotic 40-minute work that draws from contemporary dance vocabularies, traditional Eastern European folk songs and dances, communal ceremonies or outdoor pandemic events. The event took place on the Rixdorfer Höhe, a post-war rubble site in Hasenheide Park, and its centerpiece was a large sculpture made of naturally dyed material and sunflower seeds produced especially for the occasion.
